Dr. Reena Becerra — known to many clients as "Dr. B" or "Dr. Bee" — is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with more than two decades of experience helping individuals, couples, families, and teens navigate trauma, intimate partner violence, and the complex intersection of identity, culture, and mental health. The founder of Bee Well Psychological Services, she sees clients throughout California via telehealth — in both English and Spanish.
Her path into this work began long before her doctoral degree. In 2007, she started as a violence victim support volunteer, and that commitment only deepened. She went on to chair VOICES Survivor Network, an advocacy group for women through Alliance for HOPE International; worked alongside multi-disciplinary prevention teams across Southern California; taught university seminars on trauma recovery; and worked directly with at-risk youth and child abuse survivors in camp settings. Her Ph.D. dissertation investigated acculturation, mental health, risk recognition, and danger assessment in intimate partner violence survivors — a research focus that mirrors her deepest clinical passions.
"I understand the courage and strength it takes to thrive, despite difficult circumstances."
Dr. Becerra's clinical approach is integrative and strength-based. Rather than narrowing in on symptoms, she draws on the full context of a person's life — family systems, peer relationships, community ties, cultural background, and religious or spiritual affiliations. This systemic, multicultural lens, combined with Trauma-Focused CBT and evidence-based trauma treatment, allows her to meet each client where they are and work toward lasting change rather than just symptom relief.
She is especially committed to working with populations who are frequently underserved: BIPOC communities, LGBTQIA+ individuals, neurodivergent clients, survivors of intimate partner violence, and those navigating the mental health impacts of cultural displacement and identity. Her practice is explicitly affirming, grounded in the belief that healing happens within a safe, non-judgmental relationship — and that every person has the capacity to reach their highest potential.
Dr. Becerra's work has been recognized in Glamour and Shine magazines, and she has appeared on SHADES of San Diego, The San Diego Insider, and Fox TV5. She has delivered keynote presentations at international conferences and received special recognition at her Ph.D. graduation for her contributions to trauma and violence work. She currently accepts private pay clients, provides superbills for out-of-network reimbursement, and offers a sliding scale for clients with financial need.
