Maraeca Butler is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Approved Clinical Supervisor in Arizona, and a co-owner of Hope Rebuilt, the Tempe group practice she leads alongside Laura Churchill, MC, LPC-S. She is an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, and EMDR is her primary modality — the lens through which she works with complex trauma, PTSD, and early childhood attachment injury. As she describes it, EMDR connects a client’s present-day concerns to their unresolved past experiences, and those connections become the point of focus for the work.
Her practice centers on women and mothers, and a meaningful share of her caseload is fellow therapists, medical providers, and others in helping professions — people who spend their days holding space for everyone else and rarely get a place of their own to do the same work. She is skilled with survivors of childhood abuse, with religious and spiritual abuse, with medical trauma and chronic illness, and with people ready to end patterns of unhealthy and codependent relationships. Perfectionism, high-functioning anxiety, and people-pleasing are where she says she does some of her best work, and she is particularly drawn to helping mothers break generational patterns they are determined not to pass on to their children.
I believe counseling can be both sacred and fun work.
Maraeca completed her EMDR basic training in 2015 and has since been trained and mentored by Deany Laliotis, Mary French, Arielle Schwartz, and others, with continuing advanced coursework in relational EMDR, attachment wounding, dissociation, EMDR Intensives, the Flash Technique, and EMDR 2.0. She holds advanced training in dissociation and combines Parts Work, somatic interventions, and mindfulness-based work with EMDR for what she describes as a holistic healing approach. Her wider toolkit includes Internal Family Systems (IFS), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and polyvagal-informed practice.
In both her personal and professional life she is passionate about learning to respect our bodies and dismantling the effects of diet culture, working through the lens of Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating. She works from an anti-racist and feminist framework, and Hope Rebuilt's clinicians specialize in working with members of the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities.
At this time Maraeca is accepting new clients for EMDR Intensives only — a focused, accelerated format that condenses months of therapy into a few extended sessions. Clients choose a half-day option of three-hour reprocessing sessions booked across one to four days, a full-day option of five-hour sessions across one to three days, or ongoing two- to three-hour sessions for those who prefer an established weekly or biweekly rhythm. Every intensive begins with a 90-minute history-taking and treatment-planning session and includes a specialized preparation workbook. A free 20-minute consultation comes first to decide together whether the format is a good fit. She notes that while she is also trained in treating eating disorders and OCD, those are better suited to ongoing weekly therapy than to an intensive.
Alongside her clinical work, Maraeca provides EMDR consultation and training to other clinicians as an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, mentoring therapists working toward EMDR certification and toward the Consultant-in-Training process, and she is a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor with the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Arizona State University and a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from Argosy University.
