Kathy Gusenkov is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at Serendipity Psychotherapy in Chandler / Ahwatukee, seeing young adults and adults in person and by telehealth across Arizona. Her practice centers on trauma therapy for couples — the place where two nervous systems, two attachment histories, and everything each partner carried in meet each other.
She takes the commitment to couple therapy seriously and meets people where they are. Most of the clients she sits with bring some form of trauma presentation: complex trauma, religious trauma, attachment trauma, or trauma that happened inside the relationship itself. Alongside couples work she sees individuals processing trauma and PTSD.
My approach is direct, relational, and grounded in real strategy — always with warmth, and often with a little humor.
Kathy is one of only a handful of couple therapists in Arizona practicing the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT) — a very experiential and practical approach rooted in attachment theory, nervous system regulation, and developmental neurobiology. It pairs well with somatic exercises and integration, and it supports some of the most challenging relationship presentations, including betrayal, trauma, personality vulnerability, dissociation, and high-conflict dynamics.
Therapy with her is not only about feelings. She focuses heavily on practical skill building, reflection, behavioral change, and trauma release, so the people she works with feel equipped to handle their own challenges rather than spending year after year in therapy. Alongside PACT she draws on EMDR, Internal Family Systems, mindfulness, and attachment-based, trauma-informed, somatic work. Her style is direct and challenging.
Her stated philosophy is that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important pieces of successful therapy, so she prioritizes making sure people feel comfortable and safe enough to do the work — and brings a lot of herself into the room for that reason. She offers free introductory consultation calls.
Kathy is PACT Level 2 trained, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Level 1 trained, and has completed EMDR Basic Training. She earned a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary and is licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in Arizona. She is a first-generation American with Slavic roots and speaks Russian, her first language, as well as English.
