Karla Garcia Torres is a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) who practices at Willow and Root Counseling in Glendale, Arizona. Originally from Jalisco, Mexico, she immigrated to the United States with her family at a young age — an experience that informs her understanding of the immigrant journey. She provides therapy in both English and Spanish, seeing clients in person in Glendale and virtually across Arizona.
Karla specializes in trauma, PTSD, and cultural identity, with particular experience supporting first-generation immigrants, adult children of immigrants, and BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ clients navigating racial and ethnic trauma, prejudice, and systemic oppression. She works from a culturally sensitive perspective, aiming to fill the gaps often felt by marginalized communities in traditional mental health care.
I take an integrative approach to therapy, combining different techniques, tools, and approaches based on several factors.
Her approach draws on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), client-centered care, and Polyvagal Theory, woven into a style that stays trauma-informed and responsive to each client's needs.
Karla earned her Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Arizona State University in 2022, and holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, also from Arizona State University.
