Bio

Dr. Jonathan Rapps is a board-certified psychiatrist who sees California clients by telehealth, offering psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and supportive psychotherapy. He completed a fellowship in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Northwell/Zucker Hillside Hospital with an elective specializing in tics and OCD, and OCD sits at the center of his work.

What he is deliberate about is the prescribing itself. His stated position is that medication should be recommended only when it is clinically indicated, or when therapy alone has not brought enough relief — and never before the risks, benefits, and alternatives have been laid out in full. He works closely with each client's therapist for diagnostic clarity and coordinated treatment rather than running medication as a separate track.

My approach is calm, careful, and individualized — focused on understanding each patient's unique experience rather than applying one-size-fits-all solutions.

Alongside OCD he works with ADHD, anxiety, and depression. His practice covers mood disorders, anxiety disorders, OCD and related conditions including trichotillomania, neurodevelopmental conditions including ADHD, tic disorders, and autism spectrum, PTSD and adjustment disorders, psychotic disorders, substance use, and other presentations such as insomnia and eating disorders. His Psychology Today profile describes an ERP-informed approach to medication management, alongside supportive psychotherapy and motivational interviewing.

He treats children, adolescents, and adults, and his own FAQ notes that the practice is generally best suited to patients between the ages of 7 and 65. A free 15-minute consultation comes first, to decide whether it is a good fit before anything is scheduled.

Dr. Rapps studied psychology at Yeshiva University and earned his MD from the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, through the American Medical Program at Tel Aviv University. He completed his psychiatry residency at Community Memorial Healthcare, where he served as Chief Resident and helped establish psychiatric services at Cal State Channel Islands, and then his fellowship in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Northwell/Zucker Hillside Hospital. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, licensed to practice medicine in California and New York, and a member of the International OCD Foundation. He sees clients in English and Hebrew.
