Jodie Shea is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, and the founder of Pillow Talk Therapy, where she sees individuals and couples by telehealth across California. Her practice centers on romantic relationships of all kinds — married or unmarried, monogamous or ethically non-monogamous (ENM), LGBTQIA+, kinky, and neurodivergent — and on helping people increase their emotional and physical intimacy. Clients do not need to be in a relationship to work with her; she supports people at every stage, from singledom to partnership and back again.
Common concerns she works with include communication problems, conflict, mismatched desire, rebuilding trust, and attachment patterns such as pursuer–distancer dynamics. She also offers pre-marital work and discernment counseling for couples unsure about the future of their relationship, and she brings trauma-informed, affirming care to people who feel “different” in some way. Jodie is neurodivergent herself and often works with neurodivergent individuals and partners.
I won’t withhold the tools from you, but I’ll support you on your journey of being ready to use them.
Jodie describes herself as a strongly attachment- and parts-based therapist who looks at the relationship system as a whole. Her approach is eclectic, and she most often draws on the Gottman Method, in which she has completed Level 3 training, Internal Family Systems (IFS), in which she holds a Level 1 certificate, and sex therapy, alongside psychodynamic work. She is also certified through the American Association of Couple and Sex Therapists (AACAST). Down-to-earth, with an East Coast directness, she balances empathy with accountability and isn’t afraid to tell clients what they need to hear.
Originally from Connecticut, Jodie earned her BS in Psychology from the University of Connecticut and her master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Central Connecticut State University. Before focusing on couple and sex therapy, she worked at a youth service bureau and senior center, a community mental health agency, a residential treatment center for eating disorders, and a group private practice. She became licensed in California in 2019, earned her CST credential from AASECT in 2024, and is also registered to provide telehealth in Florida. A free 15-minute video consultation is available.
