Carrie Smolen is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California who works with perfectionists and with people navigating anxiety, body image, and disordered eating. She sees clients in person in Echo Park and Pasadena — in northeast Los Angeles — and by telehealth across the state.
Much of Carrie's work is with perfectionism in its many forms: the overwhelm and overthinking that can take over, or the freeze where procrastination keeps you from even beginning. She also works with the full range of body struggles, from disordered eating and eating disorders to chronic illness, gender dysphoria, and aging anxiety, drawing on earlier clinical experience in intensive outpatient and partial-hospitalization eating-disorder treatment.
I view my clients holistically and within their context — and help them figure out what actually matters to them.
Carrie works primarily from a relational Gestalt lens: present-focused, experiential, and grounded in the relationship between therapist and client. Her holistic, humanistic, and postmodern sensibilities mean she resists one-size-fits-all formulas, meeting each person as a whole and in the context of their life. Her style is warm and supportive.
She offers an affirming space for LGBTQ+ clients and has particular experience with creative and entertainment-industry professionals. Carrie holds a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Southern California and continues her training in Relational Gestalt therapy at The Relational Center.
