April Madden is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Certified Substance Use Disorder Counselor IV at Twisted Oaks Therapy, seeing teens and adults in Paso Robles and by telehealth across California. Her practice centers on substance use and recovery — and on the relational damage that so often travels alongside it.
Addiction rarely stays contained to the person living it. April works on both halves of that picture at once: the recovery itself, and the strained communication, broken trust, and blurred boundaries left in its wake. In her own framing, life becomes overwhelming when you are carrying the weight of anxiety, trauma, stress, relationship challenges, or major life transitions all at the same time.
You are not broken. You are human. And healing is possible.
Her approach is collaborative and strengths-based, drawing on cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and solution-focused interventions. The aim she describes is practical: build resilience, develop healthier coping strategies, strengthen relationships, and make change that holds. Alongside substance use and relational work, she supports clients through anxiety, stress, trauma, boundary-setting, and major life transitions.
April is a Certified Substance Use Disorder Counselor IV (SUDCC-IV #13981) and has more than a decade of clinical experience. Her style is direct and challenging, and she is currently accepting new clients. She is in-network with a wide range of California plans, including CenCal Health / Medi-Cal and Medicare.
She earned a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University and is licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in California.
