Dr. Alana Jacobs is a licensed clinical psychologist with a doctorate from Pacific University and over 15 years of experience as a therapist. She works with individuals, couples, and groups from her office in the Sawtelle neighborhood of Los Angeles, as well as via telehealth.
Alana's approach is non-pathologizing — she doesn't believe her clients are broken or need fixing. Instead, she helps people reconnect with who they already are: worthy, enough, and lovable. Life's traumas and challenges can obscure our essence, and Alana is here to help clients rediscover themselves.
In her work with individuals, she integrates AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy), Gestalt, EMDR, mindfulness, interpersonal psychotherapy, psychodynamic, and modern psychoanalytic approaches. For couples, she draws on advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), the most evidence-based form of couples therapy available today.
"I don't believe I am in the business of changing you. I am here to help you get back to who you are — already perfect, enough, worthy, and lovable because you are you."
One of Alana's strong passions is group therapy, specifically interpersonal process groups. She believes this type of therapy is one of the most potent modalities for working through interpersonal patterns that block our ability to have sustained, nourishing relationships. She is dedicated to lifelong learning as a group leader and receives advanced training in Modern Analytic group therapy.
Her work is grounded in a framework that acknowledges and explores the impact of systemic oppression in all its forms — racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, and xenophobia — on the mental health of marginalized communities, particularly POC and queer folks.
Alana is warm, engaged, collaborative, and brings her full self into the therapeutic relationship — quirks, humor, and all. In her free time, you can find her at the beach, hiking, swimming, pursuing her passion for acting, or enjoying stand-up comedy, films, and live music.
