About Tandem Alliance

We built the directory
we wished existed.

Most directories list any therapist. Many are self-reported, unverified, and overcrowded. Finding an actual specialist — someone who has spent years mastering EMDR, OCD treatment, perinatal mental health, etc. — takes individual research that most people in crisis don't have.

The Problem

Generic directories fail people who need specialists.

When someone is looking for a therapist who treats OCD, they don't need a list of 400 providers who checked "OCD" on a dropdown form. They need someone who has trained in ERP, treats OCD as a primary focus, and has the case experience to actually help.

The same is true for complex trauma, eating disorders, sex therapy, and dozens of other areas where depth of training matters enormously. Large directories have no financial incentive to make that distinction.

Tandem Alliance exists because that distinction is important to us. We're not trying to list every therapist, we're looking to help you find the right ones.

How We Vet

A three-step process for every listing.

Every therapist in our directory has passed three of the following before a profile is created. There are no self-service sign-ups. There is no "upgrade to be seen."

1

Active License Verification

We verify current, active licensure with the relevant state licensing board — LCSW, LPC, LMFT, PsyD, PhD, or equivalent. Expired, inactive, or suspended licenses are disqualifying.

2

Specialty Credential Check

We verify that the therapist holds documented training or certification in their listed specialty. For EMDR this means EMDRIA training. For OCD it means ERP methodology and evidence-based protocol training. For perinatal, postpartum, or eating disorder work, we look for recognized certification bodies or supervised clinical hours in that population.

3

Discipline History Review

We check each therapist's record with their state licensing board for disciplinary actions, formal complaints, and sanctions. Any open or sustained disciplinary action disqualifies a listing regardless of credential quality. We search for negative reviews on any platform and consider them carefully.

What "Tandem Certified" means in practice

The badge is not a participation trophy. It means we looked at real documentation including license records, training certificates, board disciplinary history, etc. and found no issues. It means the therapist's claimed specialty has external verification behind it, and profiles that no longer meet the standard are removed.

How We Compare

Tandem vs. Alternatives.

Most directories monetize listings, not quality. The more therapists who pay, the more revenue. That creates a structural incentive to lower the bar, not raise it.

The Team

Built because we know the struggle.

Tandem Alliance was created to help searches find who people are really looking for. When directories bury specialists under hundreds of generalists, and distinguishing between the two became near impossible without extra searching, we knew something needed to change.

We're a small, selective team that believes therapist qualifications are too important to leave to an oversaturated algorithm, often ranked by who paid the most for placement.

Founding Team

"With background in psychology and mental health services, we built this because we needed it ourselves. This site is for therapists and clients alike, and we believe it is a necessary industry change."

Our Mission

The right specialist shouldn't be hard to find.

We exist to make specialist mental health care accessible without requiring clients to become credentialing experts. We do the verification work so you can focus on finding the right fit.
